My name is Clare Johnstone, I am one of the many domiciled British that lived in Kharagpur, India, from 1930 until 1950. I am creating this blog about my birthplace, India, in the hopes of contacting some of the many childhood friends I had growing up in India during the time of The Raj.
My focus of this blog is to show India as I remembered it, and also as it is today. I will be including photos, biographies, and snipets of our wonderful memories of Kharagpur and India in general.

Thank you Sukhbir for the photo of 350 Third Avenue, Kharagpur. In the early forties the Loader family used to live in that house. Mr. Loader was a mail driver, most of the six Mail Drivers lived on Third Avenue, well planned by the BNR keeping these employees of the shed close at hand. We are all depending on you to keep us up to date of what has become of this house that was choosen to be re-constructed.
Most of the "Beyond" news of Kharagpur will come from you Sukh so please help quench our thirst here. Thanks

Didn't I send you the latest photo of '350?'. I think I had taken the pic with my camera phone. OK, I will send you another one taken with my digital camera. This bungalow has been turned into an 'Officer's Rest House'.

These are fascinating pictures!!! I have always wanted to visit India...this just piques my curiosity all the more. You seem like a wonderful and interesting person...I see where Howard gets it from.
